Antonio Conte Under Pressure As Abramovich Holds Meeting

Billionaire owner of Chelsea, Roman Abramovich, was furious after Chelsea lost at home to Liverpool last week.
Reports are that the Russian held meetings with Chelsea executives until 1am following Friday’s 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
A source close to the Blues owner said: He was not happy with Conte’s performance, but it’s very early.

Abramovich’s response to the setback has given former Italy coach Conte an early insight into the high expectations of the club’s ultra-demanding owner.

Chelsea are already five points behind leaders Manchester City after just five games.

Abramovich is understood to have been angered by the limp performance of the costly-assembled team on a night when he was in London to watch his 250th Premier League game as Chelsea owner.

He is also understood to have questioned why Conte, with Chelsea 2-1 down from the 36th minute, waited until the 84th minute to make any substitutions.

Chelsea did sign midfielder N’Golo Kante, Batshuayi and defenders David Luiz and Marcos Alonso.

But there are concerns already this will not prove enough to lift a team that finished tenth in the table last year.

Not liking what he saw, Abramovich held lengthy meetings with board members in a bid to find the best way forward under the highly-rated Conte who looks certain to be given funds in January to strengthen his squad.

Conte will make changes for tonight’s EFL Cup tie at Leicester – the scene of previous manager Jose Mourinho’s last match in charge before being sacked last December.
