Manchester City And Barcelona To Bid For Bellerin In January
Hector Bellerin was born in Barcelona and left the Nou Camp for Arsenal five years ago, at the age of 16. Barca needed a new right back after Dani Alves’s shock departure to Juventus and boss Luis Enrique believes the Catalan club could have an emotional pull on the youngster.
City also have strong appeal, though, and a secret weapon. Former Barcelona midfielder Pep Guardiola was a hero for Bellerin growing up but more significant is the presence of Mikel Arteta at the Etihad.
Spaniard Arteta saw Bellerin burst through the ranks at Arsenal and the pair, who signed in the same summer for the north London club, developed a close relationship before Arteta left the Emirates for a coaching role at the end of last season.
Mikel and his wife adopted me when I arrived, said Bellerin, in an interview in May. I was a kid and he has been like a father to me.
He has been instrumental in my integration into the Arsenal.
Bellerin has been in contract talks with Arsenal for months but has yet to extend the four-year deal he signed in 2015.
He has made rapid progress since breaking into Arsene Wenger's team seizing his chance when £12million signing Mathieu Debuchy was injured and making the place his own.
In May, he made his debut for Spain and was selected in the squad for Euro 2016.
