Mourinho Set To Drop Rooney For the EFL Cup On Wednesday
Jose Mourinho faces a battle to win over Manchester United’s dressing room after the latest public attack on his players.
And boss Mourinho is also set to axe captain Wayne Rooney for Saturday’s clash with Leicester following another poor performance at Vicarage Road.
One United source told SunSport:
The mystique about Mourinho has gone — it just feels like another manager passing through.
Fergie would never go public. He always kept it in-house.
Fans had been calling for Rooney to be left out.
But it was Mourinho’s treatment of Shaw that stunned the dressing room after his failure to get tight enough to Nordin Amrabat for Watford’s second goal. The England left-back was hauled off just two minutes after Juan Zuniga scored.
Shaw, 21, only came back from a broken leg at the start of the season and has been playing with a groin injury.
But Mourinho openly questioned his attitude. And the Portuguese also warned his players they are playing for their places ahead of the January transfer window.
The Special One has the full support of owners of the Glazer family to make more changes if United fail to make an impression on the top four.
The Red Devils face League One Northampton in the EFL Cup third round on Wednesday. Defeat would be the first time Mourinho has ever lost four straight games.
