Lewis Hamilton Wins Mexican Grand Prix [PHOTOS]

Lewis Hamilton kept his slim title hopes alive with a smashing victory over Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg in the Mexican Grand Prix Sunday

Hamilton survived a scare at the start, when he ran wide at the first turn after locking a front tyre, but he quickly overcame it for his second victory in eight days after his thrilling win in the United States GP penultimate weekend.

It was a 51st career win for the Brit, and takes him up to 19 points behind championship leader Rosberg with just two races remaining.

Rosberg, who survived a lounge from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to cross the finish line in second, can now wrap up the Championship – his first – with a win in the Brazilian GP in two weeks time.

Verstappen finished third ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, but the former was given a five-second elapsed penalty for leaving the track at turn one and refusing to give the place to Vettel. The German was subsequently bumped up to third.

Three-time world champion Hamilton claimed earlier in the week that he is relishing the challenge of pipping rival Rosberg to the championship, and he was in inspired form from the get-go, outpacing Rosberg in practice and qualifying before claiming a crushing victory in front of 135,000 fans on Sunday.
