Angry Mob Almost Kill Fake Soldier Who Stole iPhone 7 In Warri

A suspected phone thief who pretends to be a soldier was whiskers from being lynched by an angry mob on Monday, November 7, in Warri, Delta State after allegedly robbing a woman of her iphone 7.

The man identified as Usman Jafar ran out of luck when the woman he had allegedly robbed recognised him the day after the alleged robbery. This happened after the fake soldier took the phone to a mobile phone market in the town, Robinson Plaza, to wipe clean the information on the phone.
A mob descended on him and left him with severe injuries on his face and other parts of his body.

According to the Punch Newspaper, Jafaar also escaped from the mob but he was pursued and apprehended and they continued beating him.

“But the mob gave him a hot chase from the point of the incident until he was caught near the home of Major General David Ejoor, an ex-Chief of Army Staff. The mob descended on him again and beat him to a pulp,” a witness, who declined to give his name, told the Punch.

Jafaar was saved by soldiers attached to the General and some police officers who dispersed the crowd and took him away.

A few minutes later, a military van reportedly from 3 Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Effurun, in the Uvwie Local Government Area of the state came and whisked the suspect away to their barracks for interrogation.

The Commanding Officer of 3 Battalion, Major Ahmed Abdulkadir, confirmed to the Punch that the suspect was an impersonator. He said the suspect would be dealt with in line with its rules of engagement.
