FG Employs 200,000 Graduate Teachers
A year after announcing that it would employ 500,000 graduate teachers as part of its plan to shore-up the education sector and create jobs, the Federal Government has finally selected the first batch of 200,000 graduates to participate in the programme.
“We will devote a significant portion of our recurrent expenditure to institutions that provide critical government services. We will spend N369.6 billion in Education and in partner with the state government and local government areas, we shall recruit, train and deploy 500, 000 teachers…” President Buhari had said while presenting the 2016 appropriation bill to the National Assembly recently.
Laolu Akande, senior special assistant to the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on media, announced the selection of 200,000 successful candidates at the second presidential economic communication workshop in Abuja on Friday, the Cable reports.
Akande said the graduates will work for two years and will be paid N30,000 monthly.
“We have selected 200,000 graduates out of 500,000. This is the first batch,” he said.
“One hundred and fifty thousand will work as teachers while 50, 000 will work as extension workers.
“Their pay which is 30, 000 per month, will go directly into their account.”
