Why I Cannot See My New Born Baby Until After 90 Days - Oba Of Lagos

The Oba of Lagos, HRM Rilwan Akiolu, has revealed a tradition that prohibits him from seeing his newborn baby until 90 days after birth.

He stated this while talking about the traditional taboos that exist within his household despite the advent of modern civilization.

Akiolu mentioned this in an interview he had with Punch News on Saturday, November 26, 2016.

According to him, "There is nowhere there are no taboos, in Benin, Yoruba cultures. For instance, in this house (palace), if a child is born to me today, I will not see him or her and he or she will not enter this house (palace) until 90 days.

"And there are some drinks and food anybody with royal blood in this palace must not put in his mouth. That is why the Yoruba adage says the practice in one household is an abomination in another household."

He however declined to explain why he is not allowed to see his child, as such information cannot be revealed to the public

Oba Rilwan Akiolu was crowned king on August 9, 2003 following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan.

The latter reigned as king from the year 1965 to 2003. He was the second Christian Oba of Lagos.
