A London High court has ordered the release of former Delta state governor, Chief James Ibori from prison following the completion of his 13-year sentence (served 61/2).
Breaking: James Ibori Is Finally Out Of London Prison
Ibori was due for release on Tuesday but the UK’s Home Office in a last minute bid tried to block his release and removal to Nigeria, since his assets confiscation hearing remained inconclusive.
Ruling Tuesday, presiding Judge, Mrs. Justice May however refused the Home Office’s request to further hold him in prison and ordered his immediate release.
Ibori has since been released following the order, we gathered.
Interestingly, the Crown and Home Office were not on the same page on this matter. Sian Davies, the Crown Prosecution’s lawyer did not object to Ibori’s release and removal to Nigeria.
