Just In: 2 Female Suicide Bombers Blow Themselves Up In Maiduguri

Two female suicide bombers have been killed in a failed attempt to invade Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Monday morning.

This is coming in a wave of renewed attacks on soft targets in the north-east by Islamist terrorists Boko Haram over the past month.

Confirming the attempted suicide attack, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Borno State Police Command, Victor Isuku, said the suicide bombers were stopped by security operatives at Geleri village in the outskirts of Maiduguri, Punch writes.

“At About 2030hrs yesterday (Sunday), two female suicide bombers were halted to stop for routine check at Geleri village which is about 5km to Muna Garage, an outskirt of Maiduguri,” Isuku said in a text message.

“One of the suicide bombers detonated the IED strapped to her body killing her and her accomplice whose IED vest did not explode. Three residents of the area were however injured.

“The command’s EOD unit rushed to the scene to render the unexploded IED safe. The area has been secured and normalcy restored.”
