The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, has said that the state will not fail in the prompt payment of pensions to retired teachers.
We Will Pay You Promptly - LASG Promises Retired Teachers
She said this on Tuesday during a Pensioners’ Welfare Forum organised by the Teachers’ Establishment and Pensions Office in Lagos.
Adebule, who was represented by the Chairman of the state’s Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Ganiyu Sopeyin, commended the retirees whom she said had contributed to providing quality education to pupils in the state.
She said, “This is a significant day because it is a gathering of senior citizens and pensioners who have played significant roles in providing quality education for our children. We see you as stakeholders and partners in progress. We thank you for your efforts while in service and we will not fail in the prompt payment of all your allowances.
“Continue to be role models even in retirement. The essence of this meeting is to discuss issues that can militate against your welfare and communicate government policies and programmes that affect your welfare. Aside from providing you with health services, we are here to exchange ideas.’’
In her address, the Permanent Secretary, TEPO, Mrs. Sewanu Amosu, expressed appreciation to God for sparing the lives of the retirees.
According to her, the welfare of the pensioners is one of the major concerns of the state government.
“Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has promised to put retirees first and he is fulfilling that promise. I thank God specially that you are in good health and sound mind. I urge you to continue to use your expertise to help the state government to develop the education sector,’’ she said.
