Eriksen And Dele Alli Combined To End Chelsea's PL Dominance [Report]

Chelsea’s enviable winning streak in the Premier League ended last night by in-form midfielder Dele Alli, whose two near-identical headers gave Tottenham Hotspur a 2-0 victory over the Blues in a  match that looked like a final at White Hart Lane.

Antonio Conte’s troops were on the verge of making history with  a record 14th consecutive victory within the same top-flight campaign, but were undone by two sublime headers from the England international – both set up by play-maker Christian Eriksen.

The premier league result leaves Chelsea on 49 points – five clear points off second-placed Liverpool – while Spurs now rise above Manchester City and Arsenal to third place in the table; seven points below the pacesetters.

Alli’s second successive double, following his effort at Watford at the weekend, gave Mauricio Pochettino’s men a fifth victory on the trot while they also exacted a measure of revenge for the ‘Battle of the Bridge’ that saw Chelsea end their title challenge in a 2-2 draw last year.

Mirroring Chelsea’s 3-4-3 shape, Spurs saw most of the ball, with Victor Wanyama and Moussa Dembele bossing the midfield in the opening period.

Eden Hazard shot narrowly wide after Nemanja Matic’s lofted pass caught out the Tottenham rearguard, while Thibaut Courtois kept out Eric Dier’s far post header.

But Spurs struck in first-half injury time when Alli rose to bury Eriksen’s sumptuous pass into the top left corner.

Chelsea came out stronger in the second half, with Diego Costa forcing Hugo Lloris yo a fine save from the edge of the area and Hazard nodding a header wide after a goalmouth scramble, but the hosts were soon celebrating again.

In a case of déjà vu for Chelsea, Eriksen swung another cross to the back post and Alli rose to guide his header home.

Conte’s men upped the tempo for the rest of the game but Spurs never looked troubled as they held on for the priceless win.
