Miss France Edged Out Others To Emerge Miss Universe 2017

French beauty, Iris Mittenaere, has been crowned the winner of the 2017 Miss Universe competition held in Manila, Philippines.

The other two finalists are Miss Haiti, Raquel Pelissier, who emerged the first runner-up, and Miss Colombia, Andrea Tovar was the second-runner-up.

The new queen, Iris Mittenaere, is reportedly pursuing a degree in dental surgery, and she plans to use her Miss Universe platform to advocate for dental and oral hygiene.

TIME reports that during the Q&A session, Miss France took on the global topic of refugee crisis by praising her country for opening its borders and accepting those displaced from the middle east due to war. “In France, we want to have the most globalization that we can, we want to have the biggest exchange of people that we can,” she said.

Miss Haiti recounted how the 2010 Haiti earthquake changed her life, while Miss Colombia made a joke, recalling how Steve Harvey scandalous error at last year’s Miss Universe competition, when he mistakenly declared Colombia the winner instead of Miss Philippines.

“A lot of people hate you,” Miss Colombia told him.

Sadly, Nigeria’s representative Unoaku Anyadike didn’t make the honour list of the competition’s top 13  finalists which included Kenya, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, Panama, Colombia, Phillippines, Canada, Brazil, France, Haiti, Thailand and the USA.
