Nigerian international Alex Iwobi has got a career lifting endorsement by none other than legendary Thierry Henry, who believes Arsenal have no need to sign Dimitri Payet during the January transfer window as Alex Iwobi can be just as good as the West Ham man.
No Need For Payet, You've Got Iwobi - Thierry Henry Advises Arsenal
France playmaker, Payet is pushing for a move away from the Hammers, with British media suggesting that former club Marseilles seems his most likely destination after Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger dispelled rumours he has his sights on the 29-year-old.
And Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has given his backing to the decision, saying Iwobi should be allowed to work on fulfilling his potential without seeing his path blocked, Goal writes.
“I don’t think Arsenal need a player like Payet at the moment,” Henry, Arsenal’s record scorer told Sky Sports.
“They have Iwobi who could be like Payet in a few years’ time, he has been good for Arsenal playing through the middle.
“Iwobi needs games to fulfil his potential and signing a player like Payet could limit his playing time, and it could spell doom for his development.”
After his breakthrough at the Emirates Stadium last season, Iwobi has been good value for the Gunners, providing creative spark and the occasional goal.
Recently named African youth player of the year, the 20-year-old is full of inventiveness and has the benefit of a manager who believes in him.
