SAD: Gunmen Kill Former Abia State Governor's Media Aide

There are shocking reports coming out of the south-east on the cold-blooded murder of Mr Ben Onyechere, a former Media Adviser to the immediate past Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji.

Onyechere was reportedly shot dead on Sunday, January 29, night after he was abducted by gunmen at about 8 p.m. in Ikenegbu axis of the Imo State capital, Owerri, where he had gone with his driver to do some shopping.

According to a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity to Vanguard, news of the former governor aide's death surfaced after his lifeless body was found on the streets the following day.

“The gunmen numbering five trailed Onyechere to a popular super market in Ikenegbu and forced his driver out of his car before they sped off with Onyechere,” the source said.

“The following day the lifeless body of Oncheyere was found a few streets away from Maris Junction, Ikenegbu Owerri, after he was shot several times. It is sad.

He added that Onyechere’s driver was shot twice on his legs for putting up some resistance as the gunmen whisked his boss away.

While the motive for the murder has yet to be ascertained, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo State command, DSP Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the incident, saying they were not immediately aware of the identity of the victim.
